How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Coronavirus

Do these stats worry you?

  • Over 14,000 people have died so far.
  • An estimated 230,000 people have been hospitalized.
  • 6.7 million people have visited the doctor for diagnosis.
  • 14 million people have shown symptoms.

And that’s just in the United States.

That’s the flu folks. The regular seasonal flu.

The seasonal flue impacts tens of millions of Americans each year. This chart is taken from CDC data via FluView ILINet weekly reporting data.

You didn’t panic, you didn’t go storm Costco for toilet paper, and you didn’t build a shrine to John McAfee in solidarity with his… solidarity.

Truth be told it’s a relatively moderate flu season. The 2017–18 season was pretty close to the edge of pandemic by CDC standards with 44 million people coming down with flu symptoms, 22 million hitting up their doctor, 800K put into the hospital and 61,000 deaths.

I implore you to stop worrying and learn to love Coronavirus. I share Elon’s feelings on the matter:
